When this blog was written -March 2016. There were 4 residents that reside permanently on Comino. Maria Said, Veggie Buttigieg, Angelo, and Salvu Vella.

Now there are just 2 residents left ( Salvu and his cousin Veggie)

Salvu Comino

Salvu Comino ResidentWe chatted with Salvu and he was kind enough to shed some light on himself and on living life on Comino. How time changed Comino, and his thoughts about the subject.

Salvu the youngest of the 4 is 64 years of age. He lived all his life in Comino, and the longest he has been out of the little paradise island was only for 3 nights. He is also very happy being there and he loves its winter solitary and quietness.

Salvu is a self-thought mechanical engineer with some interesting accomplishments under his belt. His favorite one is a remotely driven stainless steel boat trailer that he welded and build from scratch. After a lot of trials and experiments, he got it to work to his liking, improving speed and maneuverability with every test and experiment

He also got big projects going on, like a hoover craft that he is building from recycled printing tin! Also close to his heart he got the drones. He explained that he always had love in his heart for flying objects. He started with small remote planes and gliders then upgraded to drones, we counted over 20 of them.

When asked which part of Comino was his favorite he grinned and stated that he loved all of Comino. He likes and cares for it all the same. But his port of choice, when it comes to launching his boat, it has to be Santa Marija bay. It is also his favorite beach of the three.

With a nostalgic smile, Salvu mentioned how he remember Comino being more populated. With up to 40 people, and how life was much different back then. It was under a farming co-op and how every field was flourishing with various vegetables and how the roads and paths and rubble walls were tended to.

Salvu also wishes for people to see the whole island, not just the Blue lagoon. Although the Blue Lagoon is a wonderful place. Comino is filled with other little beauties, inlets, coves, rock formations, caves, lagoons, architecture, and above all tones of history. From pirates and corsairs to the Knights of Saint John and we agree with him completely, everyone should get to know Comino. Everyone should experience and explore the wonders it has to offer.

On our private boat charters, we sail all around the island of Comino. Stopping in many bays around Comino island and explore caves and inlets. Comino is much more than the blue lagoon. The blue lagoon is nice but the island has much more to offer.

On the winter boat tours, there is also the option to walk to Salvus’s residence. Explore the panoramas and the Comino tower.
